The future is here! The Japanese manufacturer has won the eMobility race and will take consumers by storm! Even if Honda has shown its green tendencies with the Honda hybrid vehicle, the future seems even greener than ever, thanks to other 100% electric models.

The Prologue, the very first electric Honda SUV, should be arriving in Canada by 2024. Find out everything we know about this new vehicle.

A futuristic silhouette

When we take a closer look at it, the 100% electric Honda SUV boasts a futuristic silhouette that is very sporty as well. It will definitely not go unnoticed, especially since it is so different from what we have come to expect from Honda. With fluid lines, an integrated rear bumper, a rear spoiler that prolongs the roofline and hidden handles, the electric zero emissions Honda SUV stands out from the lot and shows its true colors with style.

This electric vehicle also shows off LED headlights and taillights with a juxtaposed luminous strip that give the Honda an even more stunning physique. The 2024 Honda Prologue is a very dynamic SUV.

The electric vehicle Honda offers is, without a doubt, pleasantly original and really takes our breath away, as it transports us –it seems- to another world… making us feel like the future is accessible to us today!

What we know about the engine

Firstly, it is important to mention that the new Honda Prologue’s engine will come with Ultium batteries, which were originally developed by GM. The 100 kWh battery will provide you with a 500 km range, while the 200 kWh battery will give you over 725 km in range, on a single charge.

Even if all the exact data has not yet been given, it is important to understand that the Ultium technology has already been proven efficient. Since we are referring here to a modular platform with a large battery capacity, it is just as ideal for sports utility vehicles and vans as it is for performance vehicles.

One thing is for sure: these batteries charge very quickly. They are made of nickel-cobalt-manganese-aluminum (NCMA) and have been specially designed to reduce cobalt use significantly (we are referring here to a 70% + reduction).

In short, the electric Honda SUV can be charged at a quick charging station, it will have outstanding electric range and will also be very performant.

Rumors from Honda

We hear more and more talk of the arrival of the electric Honda SUV for 2024, but no matter the rumors, some features are already known:

  • It will be 100% electric
  • It will be powered by Ultium batteries and technology
  • It will be a zero emission vehicle
  • It will surely be akin to the Honda Pilot

As mentioned by Honda Canada: “The Honda Prologue is our first volume BEV that will be a catalyst to our ongoing path to electrification and our global goal of a zero emissions future. The Prologue is a battery-electric SUV that will provide our Canadian customers with what they expect from Honda; an exciting, reliable, safe and fun to drive vehicle.”

The new 2024 Honda Prologue will thus be the very first 100% electric Honda vehicle to hit North American roads. In Canada and Quebec, its arrival is eagerly awaited. Time will tell if provincial and federal governments will give applicable grants to this vehicle. One thing is for sure, several 2022 Honda vehicles already qualify for these incentives, offered by Quebec and Ottawa.

the electric and carbon-neutral vision of Honda Global

A big leap for the Japanese brand

In April 2021, Honda global CEO, Toshihiro Mibe, announced a vision to achieve carbon-neutrality for its products and corporate activities by 2050, including key targets for sales of electrified vehicles. This vision calls for the sales ratio of battery-electric and fuel cell electric vehicles in North America to progress from 40% by 2030 and 80% by 2035 to 100% by 2040.”

Moreover, the Japanese brand will be adding hybrid electric systems to already existing models in order to reduce CO2 emissions, and also to lead clients towards choosing battery-electric vehicles that are currently being developed. In short, Honda keeps innovating and focusing in eMobility through electric and hybrid systems, for vehicles that are increasingly efficient and performant.

With the all-new 2024 electric Honda Prologue SUV, the Japanese manufacturer is clearly showing that it is headed in this direction. Honda is also demonstrating that a new important chapter has begun, one of greener and more eco-friendly vehicles, that are just as durable, reliable and performant as ever.
